British writer-director Savanah Leaf delivers an impressive and sensitive debut feature that intelligently and compassionately explores themes of class, poverty, race and addiction. Co-produced by British companies Film4 and Academy Films, the work delves into how society allows people to fall between the cracks in a way that feels bracingly honest and raw.

Set in San Francisco in 2006, Gia (Tia Nomore) - a pregnant single mother with two children in foster care - fights against an unfair system to reclaim her family. Struggling to keep her head above water, she embraces her close-knit Bay Area community as she battles to make her way through.
