This enjoyable series is directed by the UK’s Justin Chadwick, and written by British screenwriter Stephen Butchard, who skilfully adapts the books of late UK author C.J. Sansom. Starring Northern Ireland’s Anthony Boyle alongside British actors Paul Kaye, Arthur Hughes and Sean Bean, the series is co-produced by London-based companies The Forge and Runaway Fridge Productions.

Sheltered lawyer Shardlake (Arthur Hughes) is instructed by Thomas Cromwell (Sean Bean) to investigate the death of a commissioner in the remote town of Scarnsea. Insisting that he’s accompanied by Jack Barak (Anthony Boyle), the pair are met with hostility, suspicion and paranoia by the monastery’s monks, who will stop at nothing to protect their future.
