Dark River

British director Clio Barnard (The Essex Serpent) elicits towering performances from British actors Ruth Wilson, Mark Stanley and Sean Bean; a family contending with a violent past. This evocative, trauma-laden psychodrama uses a muddy and misty Yorkshire landscape to potent effect and while the story might be glum, in Barnard’s hands it’s beautifully-realised.
