Bitter Lake

Written, directed and edited by BAFTA-winning UK filmmaker Adam Curtis, we do a deep-dive into the historical archives to examine the complex relationship between Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan and the West. Led by Curtis’s dynamic and enlightening narration, the documentary is distinctive, ambitious, gripping and daring. Produced by UK powerhouse, BBC.

Beginning with a 1945 meeting between President Roosevelt and King Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia, Adam Curtis explores Saudi's relationship with America, and the role it played in the war on Afghanistan. Considering history from America, Saudi Arabia, Britain, the Soviet Union and Afghanistan, the role of black-and-white thinking is discussed, as an oversimplified tale of good vs evil has since come to colour all political storytelling.
