The Last Tree
This semi-autobiographical film from British-Nigerian writer-director Shola Amoo traverses Lincolnshire, London and Lagos to depict a Black British experience that blends grit with grace. Featuring dynamic work from its cinematographer, editor and composer, as well as lead actor Sam Adewunmi, The Last Tree is a must-see.
Femi, a British boy of Nigerian heritage, is being raised by a loving foster mother in the rural idyll of Lincolnshire. But when his birth mother stakes her claim, he must return to London and adapt to inner-city life. As he reaches adulthood, he must decide for himself who he wants to be and how much his environment defines him.
