Sweet Sixteen

Once again bringing together UK collaborators Ken Loach, producer Rebecca O’Brien and screenwriter Paul Laverty, Sweet Sixteen in a powerful social-realist drama set on a Scottish estate. Martin Compston is astonishing, brilliantly playing out Loach’s regular trope of well-meaning characters finding themselves trapped in callous worlds. Co-produced by British companies BBC Films, The Works and Scottish Screen.

Sweet Sixteen follows a Scottish teenager (Martin Compston) who lives with his grandfather and drug-dealing stepfather (Gary McCormack) while he waits for his mum (Michelle Coulter) to be released from prison. He plans to surprise her with her very own mobile home when she gets out, but can only do so through risky and nefarious means.
