Top of the Lake

This intriguing and deeply mysterious two-season drama was both Golden Globe-winning and BAFTA-nominated. Creator Jane Campion continues her trend of pushing female characters to the fore with a phenomenal central performance from British-American actor Elisabeth Moss, supported by immense acting talent such as Scotland’s Peter Mullan. Co-produced by See-Saw Films, BBC and UKTV.

Set in a remote town on New Zealand’s South Island, determined detective Robin Griffin (Elisabeth Moss) investigates the disappearance of twelve-year-old Tui (Jacqueline Joe), who is five months pregnant. As she conducts her enquiry, her limits are tested when she faces conflicts with members of the local community such as Tui’s father Matt Mitcham (Peter Mullan) and GJ (Holly Hunter), a spiritual mentor at a local women-only camp for survivors of sexual violence.
