After appearing on the Brit List in 2010, Kevin Lehane’s script for Grabbers went into production, directed by Northern Irish filmmaker Jon Wright. What emerges from their collaboration is hugely entertaining, occasionally malevolent and downright mischievous. The sound design and CGI in particular add lots of squelchy thrills.

Synopsis
On an idyllic fishing village off the coast of Ireland, strange occurrences are afoot: the crew of a fishing boat disappears, whales wash up dead on the shore and a many-tentacled creature is caught in a trap. The villagers are soon terrorised by aliens, but discover they’re safe, as long as they’re drunk.
