Synopsis
Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) seizes power from his father, Emperor Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris), and orders his father’s favoured general Maximus (Russell Crowe) to be killed. After escaping imprisonment, Maximus is relegated to fighting for his life in the gladiator arenas.
