Synopsis

29-year-old psychiatrist Carl Jung (Michael Fassbender) attempts to cure his patient Sabina Spielrein (Keira Knightley) of hysteria using psychoanalysis. He begins a correspondence and friendship with father of psychoanalysis Sigmund Freud (Viggo Mortensen), but soon finds their relationship compromised when he begins an affair with Sabina and their ideologies diverge. As entanglements deepen, the fallout will have lasting repercussions for all three.
