British filmmaker Anthony Minghella marked his debut feature as writer-director with this impressive and ambitious adaptation. Winning the Oscars for both Best Picture and Best Director in 1997, it features a first-rate cast that includes UK actors Ralph Fiennes, Kristin Scott Thomas and Colin Firth. Synopsis

At the end of World War II in an Italian monastery, Laszlo de Almasy (Ralph Fiennes) - who was severely burned during a plane crash - is cared for by a nurse named Hana (Juliette Binoche). Through flashbacks he reveals his past, including a significant and fateful romance with an English woman (Kristin Scott Thomas).
