Director Sarah Gavron teams up with writer and fellow Brit, Abi Morgan (Brick Lane), to explore the suffragette movement while thoughtfully taking the nuances of class background into account. With an all-star UK cast including Carey Mulligan, Helen Bonham Carter, Anne-Marie Duff, and Natalie Press.

In early 20th century Britain, working-class mother, Maud Watts (Carey Mulligan), a working-class woman, joins the growing suffragette movement after being inspired by activist Emmeline Pankhurst (Meryl Streep). Their battle for the right to vote is met with increasingly punitive police responses, as the diverse group of women risk everything in their fight for equality.
