Synopsis

In early 20th century Britain, working-class mother, Maud Watts (Carey Mulligan), a working-class woman, joins the growing suffragette movement after being inspired by activist Emmeline Pankhurst (Meryl Streep). Their battle for the right to vote is met with increasingly punitive police responses, as the diverse group of women risk everything in their fight for equality.
