Rotting in the Sun

Directed, co-written by and starring Sebastián Silva, this audacious black comedy is a playful but ultimately uncomplimentary look at privilege, entitlement and influencer culture. With an enjoyable whodunit angle and fantastic performances from both Jordan Firstman and the brilliant Catalina Saavedra (The Maid), the film is unique, ambitious and energetic. Co-produced by UK company Icki Eneo Arlo.

Synopsis

Depressed director Sebastián Silva tries to unwind by taking a trip to the Mexican coast, where he meets self-obsessed Instagram influencer Jordan Firstman (both playing versions of themselves), who convinces Sebastián to work on a project with him. But when Jordan arrives in Mexico City, Sebastián is nowhere to be found, leaving Jordan to investigate the director’s disappearance himself.
