Based on the novel by English author E.M. Forster, and skilfully adapted to screen by British-American screenwriter Ruth Prawer Jhabvala, this Oscar- and BAFTA-winning film is intelligent, entertaining and comedic. Its talented UK cast - including Helena Bonham Carter, Maggie Smith, Daniel Day-Lewis, Julian Sands and Denholm Elliott - all give superb performances. Synopsis
A young English woman called Lucy Honeychurch (Helena Bonham-Carter) is travelling around Italy with her cousin (Maggie Smith) when she meets the charming and free-spirited George Emerson (Julian Sands) in Florence. After returning home, Lucy considers marrying the wealthy but unadventurous Cecil Vyse (Daniel Day-Lewis), until George reappears and she’s forced to make a decision.
