Step behind the scenes of Rabbit Trap, the haunting and atmospheric feature debut from UK filmmaker Bryn Chainey.
In this exclusive interview, Chainey reveals how he worked with Dev Patel and Rosy McEwen to capture the unspoken history of a marriage on screen, why Jade Croot’s character was kept outside rehearsals to preserve her unsettling presence, and how cinematographer Andreas Johannessen’s connection to nature shaped the film’s striking 35mm visuals.
He also discusses the mystical role of sound and how framing and negative space give room for the unseen.
About the film: Married couple and musicians Darcy (BAFTA-winner Dev Patel) and Daphne (Rosy McEwen) move from London to a remote Welsh cottage, hoping the sounds of nature will spark their creativity. But when they accidentally record a mysterious, unidentifiable frequency, a strange child (Jade Croot) emerges — and her arrival threatens to unravel their relationship. Written and directed by Bryn Chainey, Rabbit Trap features outstanding performances from its UK cast and is co-produced by London-based Bankside Films and Wales-based Mad As Birds.
