The Long Song

Directed by British filmmaker Mahalia Belo, with a sensitive screenplay developed by the UK’s Sarah Williams, this always moving and sometimes horrifying three-part series was co-produced by the BBC and Heyday Films. As well as rising star Tamara Lawrance, the series boasts a remarkable UK supporting cast including Hayley Atwell, Jack Lowden and Lenny Henry.

In 19th century Jamaica, eight-year-old slave July (Tamara Lawrance) is taken from her mother by a plantation owner’s abhorrent sister, Caroline (Hayley Atwell). July transforms into an adult during the final days of slavery in Jamaica.
