The Angels’ Share

Directed by Ken Loach, with a warm-hearted script from his long-time Scottish collaborator Paul Laverty, we endlessly root for the young offenders in this skilfully-plotted heist movie. More obviously comedic than Loach’s previous work, it stills explores the social issue of youth unemployment. Winner of the Cannes’ Jury Prize in 2012 and co-produced by UK outfits BFI and Sixteen Films.

Glasgow-born Robbie (Paul Brannigan) is a young father who narrowly avoids a prison sentence, along with some of his friends. Determined to turn over a new leaf, a trip to a whisky distillery allows them to imagine a route to a new life.
