Cannes 2025: UK films and co-productions

A father and his two sons

The 78th edition of the festival features another stellar line-up for the UK, with the return of acclaimed Scottish director Lynne Ramsay and three exciting directorial debuts in The Un Certain Regard strand.

Director Oliver Hermanus’ The History Of Sound will screen In Competition, an Italy, US and UK co-production along with Die, My Love from Lynne Ramsay, who won the screenwriter award for You Were Never Really Here at Cannes in 2017. The Un Certain Regard strand will feature three UK titles; My Father’s Shadow, the debut feature from Akinola Davies Jr., Pillion from Harry Lighton and Urchin, the directorial debut of Harris Dickinson — all of which are backed by the BFI National Lottery Filmmaking Fund.

Elsewhere, Critics Week will see Left-Handed Girl from director Shih-Ching Tsou and La Cinef Selection will feature short film Ether from director Vida Skerk and the National Film and Television School.

The immersive section will also feature three UK titles: Lili by Navid Khonsari, Taxi by Yamil Rodriguez, Michael Arcos and Stephen Henderson and Trailblazer by Eloise Singer which will be out of competition.
